Experience:

Of 25 years in law enforcement, W. T. Gaut, PhD devoted 17 years in the investigation and disposition of Homicide cases achieving a 98% clearance rate. During the course of his career, he has held every position including Lead Investigator, Detective Sergeant, Detective Lieutenant, and ultimately Captain of Detectives where he supervised the daily activities of 130 investigators.

His experience in death investigation included virtually every type of case including street crime, domestic crime, "in custody" deaths, and high profile "serial killer" crimes. During his career, he became known as a "profiler" where he was regularly asked to assist other departments in death investigations, and to handle "cold case" files within his own department.

As an expert witness, W. T. Gaut, PhD has worked for both plaintiff and defendant attorneys and recognized as an expert in both State and Federal courts. His clients include State and Local Law enforcement agencies as well as plaintiffs alleging wrongdoing by Law Enforcement agencies. His cases include Police Excessive Force Injuries and Wrongful Death, Police Practices and Procedures, Crime Scene/Evidence Evaluation, Unlawful Imprisonment, and Police Investigative Procedures.

W. T. Gaut, PhD is an experienced Adjunct College Professor teaching classes in Homicide Investigation, Fundamentals of Law Enforcement, Criminal Investigation Techniques, and Criminal Law. During his police career, he was a regular instructor at the Police Academy teaching Basic and Advanced Police Procedures, Police Management, Homicide Investigation and Self Defense. He has been a guest lecturer in the field of Criminal Justice at several universities including the University of Alabama, Auburn University, and Samford University.
